One of the most annoying things about “real life” is what to have for dinner in the evening. At least in our house… ;-). When you visit a new a holiday destination for the first time you also might be a bit lost in the beginning.

Well we get this and we have some good news for you:

2/ Much more important: It is actually true that one of the best things about Italy, and also Piemonte, is that the fruit and vegetables actually TASTE LIKE FRUIT & VEGETABLES! So it’s much easier to make your choise and use the local delicacies, fruit and vegetables in just any season.

If you go to a local (super)market somewhere around Costegliole d’Asti you know the quality and the taste will be entirely different for the same products as at home (depending where home is for you of course 😉 ).

So it’s really worth your time to just wander around and to choose your favorites, to have a coffee (or an early aperitif ;-)) in the middle of your tour while watching the merchants, the locals and other tourists stroll by… This is and excellent way to unwind and for many a tradition to start a good holiday! Since it’s easy to miss out on markets we made a small overview to make your holiday life a bit easier.

The market in our own town Costigliole d’Asti is every sunday morning. It’s about 5 minutes by car and you will find very nice fruit and vegetables. It is held in the main street towards the castle and it’s not as touristy as other markets earlier in the week. Therefore it’s perfect to fill the fridge for the first time! You can have a coffee in one of the bars at the square and park in the beginning of the village nearby Antica Borio Delicatessen . Over here you can also pick up some nice meat afterwards. At the end of the village nearby the Castle you will find another very nice butcher Borello Carni (Macelleria e Allevamento) Punto Carni. Good to know is that in both places you can also order in advance ;-).

Of course there are also several bakeries in Costegliole d’Asti and a Conad supermarket which is not closed during lunch and open on Sundaymorning. Apart from this you also have the spar supermarket Il quadrifoglio closeby. They also have a very nice wineshop! In both supermarkets they are extremely friendly and helpfull.

But now back to the local weekly markets nearby!

They mostly run from 7.00/8.00 in the morning till around 13.00/14.00

In the center of Asti you also have the covered market that is open every day in the morning except for Sunday.
