Why you should travel to Piemonte in autumn

What to do around Villa Perla
in September, October & November?

Even more Festivals, food, wine & ... Truffles!

During Autumn in the months September, October and November it’s actually the busiest season of the entire year in Piemonte.

It’s not the “classic tourism” as we know it in most other holiday destinations. Oh no… 😉 ! It’s much more sophisticated because of all the exclusive wine and truffle festivities. This should absolutely be on your (wine) bucket list! The landscape will amaze you as well toghether with the buzz around the vendemmia or grape harvest.

Be aware that you will need to book your accomodation and some of the popular restaurants well in advance because with all the fairs there are a lot of business people travelling as well.

Festivals 2026

September:

  • Palio di Asti — Sunday 6 September. It’s run on the first Sunday of September, with the bareback horse race in Piazza Alfieri and a historic parade of over 1,200 costumed figures; the tradition dates to 1275. It’s in the center of the city and even has a longer history than the famous version of Siena!
  • Festival delle Sagre Astigiane — 12–13 September, Piazza Campo del Palio. It’s the 52nd edition, and the Pro Loco villages turn the square into Italy’s largest open-air restaurant, with the big rural-life reenactment parade through the centre on Sunday morning.
  • Douja d’Or — Asti, 11–20 September (worth a final check on doujador.it; sources vary by a few days). National Show of selected wines since 1967… or the National Wine Competition of the Asti Chamber of Commerce. In the city you will find a lot of activities related to this annual event. If you are a fan of food, wine, art and cultural trips in general you should definately consider a stay in the area aroung the second and third week of september and visit Asti.
  • Festa della Vendemmia — Canelli, 18–20 September.

October:

This last event is an insider tip!!

The yearly Rapulè fair is an incredible event on the Asti autumn agenda. The village of Calosso comes alive with its food and wine journey and there are more hiden treasures to see than you would ever expect. Calosso is a 5 min drive from Villa Perla but for this event you need to park outside the village.
